Name: Nchimunya Wulf Current City: Los Angeles Occupation: Wardrobe stylist | Executive Director of 14+ Foundation How would you describe your style? Practical. Effortless. Sporty. Chic. If you had to wear one outfit everyday, what would it be? All black Nike Tech Fleece sweatsuit & Nike Flyknit Racer. Describe your current life in three words. Blessed. Light. Full. How does your occupation as a stylist and philanthropist affect your style? It is important for me to be comfortable and stylish, but not flashy. I like to look effortlessly chic. My work is not about me; its about my clients and about other people I am helping. I never want to look as if I don't understand my role, which is to serve. What do you enjoy most about your career? I am my own boss. Do your cultural roots affect your style in any way? Danish people dress very practically. I love that. I love traditional african prints and incorporate these in my dresses and skirts. What are some obstacles that you face/ have faced as a business woman? Trusting assistants has been challenging. Being my own boss is wonderful but there is also a lot of pressure because you have to continually ensure that you stay relevant. Who or what influences/inspires your style. My style is pretty much at a status quo. I spent many years trying to figure out who I was and now finally feel like I am comfortable with who I am. That goes hand in hand with my style, which is influenced by my lifestyle, and requires me to be able to maneuver around easily as I have to travel a lot- always carrying heavy garment bags and luggage. Having a baby also requires me to be practical while still being chic. Have you ever had to make any hard sacrifices in order to pursue your dreams/career? (If so, feel free to give an account of such a time) I was happily married to the most amazing man. I left that relationship because I know I needed to follow my dreams or I couldn't live a happy life. I moved from the Bay Area, left everything I had and arrived in NY with just $50, a gold Amex card and a pocket full of dreams. Describe your life 10 years ago in three words: Acid wash jeans . What does being a BagLady mean to you? A lady traveling with a bag full of rich experiences. What do you like most about our garments? It is effortless. What countries have you visited?
Zambia, Kenya, Congo, Spain, France, Portugal, Germany, England, Holland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Czech Republic & Mexico. Have your travels shaped your style in anyway? 100%. I am inspired by real life. Have you ever been afraid of expressing your personal style? Never! I don't care what people say. I am not intimidated by other people's opinion or judgement. What’s one thing that you’re proud of doing/accomplishing? The work we are doing in Africa with 14+ Foundation is making a difference in so many lives. Having enough compassion to put yourself in a position to do good for others is our quest. What advice do you have for individuals who wish to have a successful career in fashion? Aim to be the best.
